Not sure if you have Insurance Coverage

for Doula Services? Ask your Provider!

 (Guidance for Toronto residents)

Your private health insurance or employee benefit plans may reimburse part or all of your doula fees.

Contact your provider and/or workplace HR department to find out more!

You may have coverage under the following insurance plans or accounts:

1.    Sun Life Financial

We have had clients claim birth doula support, because Sun Life recognizes specific doula certifying organizations (ie. DONA International). Clients with Sun Life have been able to purchase electric breast pumps through their health spending accounts.

2.    Carrot Fertility

This truly ground-breaking company is committed to providing access to fertility and family-building support globally.

They are in 170+ companies, with 17,000 eligible providers.

They cover services from fertility to parenting, and even menopause!

3.    You may also have coverage for doula services through your employee benefits/ health spending account, wellness or lifestyle benefits.

Ask your provider if doula care, birth support, postpartum support, prenatal yoga, or childbirth education is included under your plan.

Your coverage may be worded in your plan as: Maternity, Prenatal or Postnatal support, Childbirth/Prenatal Education.

If you have coverage, be sure to check:

-      What percentage of fees are covered or reimbursed. Is there a maximum allowable amount per year?

-      Do you need a referral from your healthcare provider (doctor or midwife)?

-      What documentation and doula qualifications/certification is required to submit a claim?

If you have coverage, please note we are often booked several months ahead of the due date, so be sure to reserve your doula care early! be interested in doula support to reach out early!

If you find out you are NOT covered, make the request to your insurance company!

The more people who put through requests to have doula services covered,

the better. Competition to provide coverage for services that employees actually want does exist.

It's our hope that someday doula services can be accessible to everyone.

Doula care is evidence-based support and we know it makes a difference!
